How it all began
From a van in Europe
to a factory in California
After 15 years in the corporate world, our founder Richard and his partner Angela left it all behind to travel in their self-converted van, Morrison. Life on the road brought freedom — and the challenges of off-grid living.
A composting toilet in their campervan impressed Richard with its sustainability, but its design left much to be desired. The poop compartment door was too small. Aiming for the urine section was a creative task. And honestly, they looked like the love child of R2D2 and a vacuum cleaner.
In 2020, during the global pandemic, CompoCloset was born. Backed by a passionate crowdfunding community, we set out to design toilets that were practical, sustainable and truly user-friendly.
From R2D2 to real design
The birth of an idea
2019
Sketches on the road
Richard sketches toilets across Europe and talks to anyone who will listen. Well — everybody poops.
2020
CompoCloset is born
Locked down in the south of Spain, Richard throws himself at the design. Erica, Angela’s twin sister, joins to sort out the marketing.
2022
Cuddy ships
A crowdfunding community backs the first run. Cuddy lands with the largest drop zone in its class and a front-mounted agitator.
2024
The S1 Dry Flush
The world’s first separating, heat-sealing toilet. Patent pending, because nobody else has figured this out yet.
