Which Toilet is Best for Homesteading?

Our top pick, Cuddy, is a composting-style toilet that kickstarts the composting process so you can transfer the solids to a proper compost pile to finish breaking down over time. It’s eco-friendly, easy to use, and doesn’t add to your household waste. Perfect for off grid living.

  • Urine-diverting and solids-agitating design keeps things dry and odor-free.
  • A built-in fan helps with ventilation, and can easily be wired into a 12-volt off grid power system.
  • The liquids indicator light tells you when to empty your liquids container.
  • Optional external venting and urine drain-away kit for more permanent placements.

And our favorite part? Cuddy is truly the most adaptable of any off-grid capable toilet on the market! It’s convertible into a Cuddy Lite or S1 Dry Flush Toilet by simply adding a Cuddy Lite solids bin or the S1 conversion kit!

Common FAQs About Our Off Grid Toilets

Will my toilet smell?

Not one from CompoCloset. All of our toilets are urine diverting toilets. Mixing urine with #2 is what creates that gross sewage smell. No mixing liquids and solids = no smell!

Can I compost the solid matter in my toilet?

Yes! With Cuddy and Cuddy Lite, solids can easily be added to your home compost pile, provided it’s managed correctly:

  • Combine with carbon-rich materials (like leaves or sawdust)
  • Let it rest for 6–12 months to fully compost
