Not all dry flush toilets work the same way. Broadly, there are two main types:
These use a clever mechanical or air-powered system to wrap, seal, or compress each “flush” into a tough liner or bag. Each use is individually sealed off, keeping odors locked away and making disposal a breeze.
The S1 Dry Flush Sealing Toilet even separates liquids from solids before sealing, reducing bag use, smell and mess.
Some dry flush designs use preloaded cartridges with multiple sealed liners or pouches. Each time you “flush,” a new section of liner is advanced and sealed. When the cartridge is full, you simply remove and replace it.
While convenient, these systems create more plastic waste since you have to “flush” with every use, even for #1’s.
Both types are waterless, chemical-free (if you want them to be), and some models are portable.
