At Overland Expo SoCal, CompoCloset presented the S1 Dry Flush, a urine-diverting dry flush toilet designed to heat seal only solid waste. The result is cleaner handling, reduced plastic use, and an alternative to traditional black tank systems.

From Kickstarter to Real-World Builds

S1 dry flush toilet showcased as innovative, off-grid solution for waste management, highlighting its unique design features.

Last year, the S1 dry flush funded in minutes on Kickstarter and moved into presale shortly after. While development has taken slightly longer than expected, deliveries are now scheduled to begin at the end of April.

At Overland Expo SoCal, the S1 moved from concept to real-world use. It was described at the event as “the most anticipated toilet in overlanding.

Attendees were able to see the system in action. They gained a clear understanding of how the urine-diverting, sealing design works.

Feedback was immediate, with many noting how intuitive the system felt compared to existing options.

During the event, the first live install was completed on-site. A backer’s Cuddy Composting Toilet, already installed in a custom van from Momentum Vans, was converted into an S1 using the S1 Adapter Kit.

Why that matters:

  • No redesign of layouts required
  • Existing Cuddy and Cuddy Lite units can be upgraded
  • Builders can offer multiple toilet options from a single footprint

What Makes S1 dry flush Different

The S1 Dry Flush separates liquids and seals only solid waste. This approach provides:

  • More controlled waste handling
  • Reduced plastic use compared to traditional dry flush systems
  • No need for powders or chemical additives
  • A more familiar, flush-style experience

A New Direction for RV Toilets

Historically, RV sanitation has centered around three main options:

  • Black Tanks
  • Composting Toilets
  • Traditional Dry Flush Systems

What stood out at Overland Expo SoCal was growing interest in alternatives that reduce reliance on water, chemicals, and infrastructure.
